WELCOME! The City of Lexington is located in Fayette County, in the heart of Central Kentucky. Lexington has a rich history in the public safety field. Until now, there was no compilation of this history. The Lexington Public Safety Museum is committed to filling this void by providing all those who visit a glimpse into the past, by viewing images and memorabilia of the very first police, fire departments and detention facilities. You may sample the rich public safety history of Lexington throughout the pages of this website, but we ask that you come and visit our facilities for the full experience. The Lexington Public Safety Museum is located on the first floor of the old Fayette County Courthouse in the heart of Downtown Lexington. The old courthouse is also known as the Lexington History Center because there are four museums in the building. The museum is open on Friday (noon to 4 pm), Saturday (noon to 4 pm), Sunday (noon to 4 pm), Monday (noon to 4 pm) and by appointment. We are closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Lexington History Center is also home to the Lexington History Museum, KY Renaissance Pharmacy Museum and the Isaac Hathaway Museum. |
